Kralendijk – The way in which nature management and sustainable building are being developed on Bolivia Estate, with the input of experts in the area of landscape development, can serve as an example for a future-proof development of the island.
The publication of a vision today, composed by the internationally renowned KuiperCompagnons and Metafoor Ruimtelijke Ontwikkeling, called ‘Landscape vision for Bolivia Estate, shows how a harmony can be found between on one side the preservation, recovery, and reinforcement of natural and cultural heritage, and on the other side room for development of living, working, entrepreneurship, and recreation.
Although the vision concerns the development of former plantion Bolivia, the vision itself, including the elaboration on how it can be put into practise, is relevant for the entire island. On the entire island there are challenges to be tackled, for which KuiperCompagnons and Metafoor – based on their experience and on locally performed research – present solutions to provide a robust network of nature on land and in the sea, keeping an eye on climate change. Inside this network lies the space to develop, in the right places, qualitatively good housing for the current and new island inhabitants, in a circular and self-sustaining manner, but also to create a more diverse economy and to stimulate high-end tourism.
The vision document is written in Dutch and can be found here
