Entrepreneur Meine Breemhaar and his spouse Mieke already had their hearts set on Bonaire when they heard that Plantation Bolivia was for sale. Upon visiting the property, it became clear to them that it was only a matter of time before the last of the vegetation would disappear, and with it, the habitat of the unique animal species living there. They decided that this wasn’t allowed to happen.
Research
Under the banner of Bonaire Properties NV (part of the Breemhaar Group), the possibilities of saving the property from certain destruction were explored. Nature organizations were asked to examine the current state of flora and fauna. The Metafoor Ruimtelijke Ontwikkeling agency – which specializes in area development – made a plan for the area’s development. As a starting point, their plan had the intention of finding the optimal balance between the conservation/restoration of nature, cultural heritage, living, agriculture, and recreation.
Local parties
For the further landscape and urban development, KuiperCompagnons from Rotterdam was asked to join the project. Kuiper is a renowned agency that enjoys international fame for its vision of creating an optimal living environment and agriculture in a tropical climate. Working together with local parties will take place as much as possible.
